Birds of Bonaire – Yellow oriole

The Yellow Oriole is a nice yellow and black bird that is famous for its beautiful woven hanging nests. This bird can be found everywhere on Bonaire, in nature it will look for insects and small fruits and in gardens it will often go for ripe hanging fruits. This bird can also be lured with sugar. On Bonaire, this bird is known as the Trupial kachó and in Latin it is Icterus nigrogularis curasoensis, the last name means that it is one of the subspecies that can be found on the islands.

You don’t have to go to certain spots on Bonaire to look for this bird, you can find it anywhere and in the green or grey bushes they are easy to spot. The only other bird that you might confuse with this 20cm big bird is the Venezuelan troupial, a species that is introduced on the island not too long ago. This one is more orange and also has some blue accents. The Yellow Oriole is a nice singer but can also make a lot of noise.
